Seeing as we’re almost in June (oh yeah!), we naturally have rest, relaxation and vacation on the mind! So… we found ourselves enjoying these vintage Boston and Maine Railroad travel posters while looking for inspiration for a new project.
Advertising today frequently has complicated, controversial messaging, heavily ‘doctored’ imagery and often just tries too hard. Maybe this is why it’s so refreshing to see a pretty and simple illustration with an equally simple message.
These posters were created by Charles W. Holmes in the 1920’s when travel by train was the preferred method to reach most New England vacation destinations. These are from the Boston Public Library’s Flickr page. They hold a collection of over 350 posters, so fun to check out!
